BBQ Style Tofu
Description
Old family recipe for BBQ style tofu. Done in the oven.
Ingredients
Marinade
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp paprika
- 6 tbsp peanut butter
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
Tofu
- 2 lbs firm tofu
- 1 bottle BBQ sauce
Procedure
Preparation
Do this a day or two ahead of time.
- Freeze the blocks of tofu for at least 24 hours.
- Remove the tofu from the freezer, and let completely thaw.
- Cut the tofu perpendicular to the longer side, with cuts about 1/2 inch apart. Err on the side of cutting the slices too thin rather than too thick.

- Placing the larger side of each piece on the cutting board, cut again down the middle.

- Press as much water as you can out of each piece.
- We need to get the water out of the tofu. If you have a tofu press, you can use that. Otherwise:
- Wrap the tofu in a towel.
- Place the tofu on a hard surface that will drain into a sink.
- Place something like a large cutting board or cookie sheet over the tofu.
- Pile heavy things (books, pans, etc.) on top of the board.
- Optionally refrigerate the tofu overnight.
Marinade
- Mix the salt, paprika, peanut butter, pepper, and oil in a small bowl until smooth.

- Baste the tofu with the marinade and place it in a 13x9 glass baking dish.
- Let it sit for an hour or two.

Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350 F.
- Bake the tofu for 25 minutes.
- Flip the tofu.
- Bake for 20 minutes more.
- Pour BBQ sauce evenly over the tofu.
- Bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Let cool for 5 minutes.
